For my second Mean Green Sovtek Muff re-housing attempt, I started off by ordering all the necessary parts . This time, I used both Small Bear Electronics and Mouser Electronics. Mouser has a wider variety of parts, but it's much more difficult to shop there if you don't know what you need. Steve at Small Bear is a great one-stop shop, and he's got better prices than Mouser on a lot of things (including enclosures and pots).

I was starting with this:

Not a pretty picture. No knobs, no battery cover, no power adapter capabilities, and duct tape holding the whole mess together. I tried removing the duct tape, but it had apparently been on there so long that it was permanently molded to the casing. Ugh.

So I made a list of things I would need to add:

  • A more compact enclosure - I chose a Hammond 1590 BB enclosure for this attempt
  • New knobs
  • 3PDT switch (to allow true bypass)
  • New LED light, with mounting hardware
  • New jacks (to replace the crappy plastic ones that came stock)
  • A DC adapter jack
  • Some wire to attach things together (use the pre-bond hookup wire from SmallBear)
  • Some paint (I used "red metallic" paint, by Rust-Oleum)
  •
